Mandate & Mission

A Chamber of Commerce is essentially a non-partisan voice for business and industry. Although it is primarily a business association, a Chamber also has representation from community groups and interested individuals in the area.

Under our mandate, the Hastings & District Chamber of Commerce serves the following geographical areas within its charter boundaries:

  • The Village of Hastings
  • The Village of Warkworth
  • part of Trent Hills
  • part of Percy Township
  • and part of Asphodel Norwood

Our goal is to create a strong and vibrant economy in the Village of Hastings and its surrounding area. Broadly speaking, the Chamber has 4 functions, including:

  • Economic development
  • Tourism promotion
  • Lobbying government, including the municipal, county, and provincial levels
  • Event management

Article II, s. 1 of the Hastings & District Chamber of Commerce, Constitution and By-Laws states that the overall mandate of our Chamber is to:

  • promote commerce and industry in our community and develop the general interests of the community which affects commerce and industry or with which industry should concern themselves.

In order to achieve its purpose the Chamber has developed the following objectives.

  • Serve as a voice of the Village and community of Hastings and District.
  • Provide a forum for businesses and the community to develop ideas, opinions, and programs, which contribute to the economic, social, cultural, and general quality of life in Hastings and District.
  • Promote a society and economy based upon private enterprise and concerns for the individual.
  • Promote good government and sound legislation at all levels of government.
  • Communicate information on topics of importance to members.
  • Facilitate business and social contact among Chamber members.
