General Community Information

Welcome to the Village of Hastings. We are a growing and vibrant community, steeped in old world charm and full of natural beauty and history. Visitors, residents and businesses have a passion for our Village that is evident in its openness and warm hospitality.

Vision

In 2008, some interested citizens in Hastings, including business owners, local residents and past members of the Chamber, held discussions that led to the beginning of a new vision for the community. As a result, the group developed a 3-pillared project to reach their goal, which was to boost local business and provide a communication network for the community. Project implementation began with the resurrection of the Hastings and District Chamber of Commerce, the opening of a Community & Tourist Information Centre, and the launch of a website – www.hellohastings.ca.

“The project has great potential for the Village in terms of promoting and bringing wider exposure to all aspects of Hastings’ attractions, culture and business. Retaining and helping businesses to expand is a primary function of this project, enhancing employment opportunities and bringing long term prosperity to the Village and its people. Through our networking facilities, we hope to give community members a central forum to come together to talk with each other, build relationships, and discuss plans that may address economic opportunities.”

Reaction so far has been positive. With the 2011 re-organization and re-naming of the Chamber and community website to www.hastingsontario.ca, the initial 3-pillared project is complete. Now, the next phase begins….

What Hastings Has To Offer

Today, the Village of Hastings offers something for everyone. Spring brings thousands of cottagers, boaters, campers, day trippers, tourists and visitors back to the Village year after year. Spring arrives with maple syrup festivals and the opening of The Farmer’s Market at the ‘four corners’. The Village comes alive with flowers, banners on the bridge and the promise of great memories.

Activity levels rise with the temperature in Hastings.

Summer sees entertain folks from across Ontario, upper United States and even from international locations enjoying the fishing, boating, swimming and hiking trails. Some partake in fishing derbies for trophy fish, while others shop in local tourist shops, relax in outdoor cafes, watch boats go by, or listen to music in the waterfront gazebo. Boat and jet-ski rentals are available, and you can always stock up on supplies at the local grocery, hardware, and wine stores.

Autumn brings the splendor of driving through the rolling Northumberland hills, with warm days and cool evenings. Winter visitors enjoy scenic snowmobile and cross-country trails and local hockey games.
